RUGE BLASTS BULLDOGS INTO SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
Joe Ruge's (.390, 45 RBI, 5 HR) clutch bottom of the 8th inning grand slam insured that the Bulldogs would return to the class 3A Sectional Championship for the second consecutive season. Ruge, who was 3 for 5 on the day, also hit a 2B and 3B and drove in 5 runs to break his own single season RBI record of 40 that he set in 2008. Bulldog Baseball (26-12) defeated Lake View by a final score of 9-5. Matt Scott (.368, 24 RBI, 2 HR) hit his single-season record-breaking 13th double and Kevin Onischuk (.355, 15 RBI, 2 HR) added to his record 43 walks. Scott Rysz (.402, 29 RBI, 3 HR) made a phenomenal catch to rob Lake View of a sure double providing the defense with an 8-3 double play to kill a Lake View rally. Zak Martell (7-2, 2.76 ERA, 83K) pitched 5 quality innings but got the no decision and Alex Brown (8-1, 3.06 ERA, 55K) threw a dominant final 3 innings giving up just one infield hit to pick up the win. The #2 seeded Dogs, who have won 20 of their last 22 games, will face #1 seeded Nazareth tomorrow (6/6) at 10am at Nazareth for the sectional championship. The next Gordon batter singled down the line to rightfielder Billy VandeMerkt who fired a perfect stike to gun down the batter as he tried to stretch his single to a double.
