Pupettes Extremely Successful at 2010 Summer Camp!
The Pupettes attended the Universal Dance Association summer camp at Northern Illinois University July 9-12. Throughout the four day camp each girl learns three different routines. These routines are very challenging and make the girls step out of their comfort zone and experience styles they’re not used to dancing. On the final day of camp, the girls are evaluated by the UDA staff and can be awarded one of three ribbons: blue, red, or white. Blue ribbons are the highest honor and earn points towards qualifying for Nationals. For the first time in four years, all 14 members of the Pupettes earned three blue ribbons a piece! This high blue ribbon count earned the team a Superior trophy and a qualification for UDA Nationals in Disney World, Florida.

Five members of the Pupettes were chosen by Coach Gorman to learn and perform the UDA Team Routine. This is the most challenging routine taught at camp and is evaluated as a group as opposed to individually. The UDA staff challenges each team to change the choreography, adding in harder tricks, levels, and cannons, to make the routine more creative and fun to watch. On the final day of camp, the Pupettes were one of three teams to earn the Team Full Out Award which recognizes the team’s efforts to be more creative and artistically appealing. The UDA Team Routine was performed by Meredythe DiVittorio, Louise Gangware, Nicole Kmet, Kara Kruse, and Hannah Langosch.

Throughout the four days of camp, the UDA staff teaches the dancers Drill Downs. Drill Downs are a set of military commands that are called out by the Head Instructor and all the dancers must follow. It is performed much like Simon Says. At the end of each day, gold ribbons are awarded to the dancers that are still standing. On the final day of camp, the team with the highest average of gold ribbons wins the Drill Down Superior trophy. For the first time, the Pupettes took home this trophy!

Finally, a big congratulations goes out to senior captain Hannah Langosch for being named a Universal Dance Association All American. Hannah had to learn additional choreography as well as add her own choreography and perform it in front of the entire camp. UDA then selects only the most elite dancers as All American. Hannah now has the opportunity to go to Rome and march in the UDA New Years Day parade. Congratulations Hannah!

This the most successful trip to camp the Pupettes has ever had! We are very excited about our upcoming football season and even more excited to start working on our competition routine for the winter season. Thank you to our family and friends for their continued support and encouragement.
